所有用卡进行的消费都叫刷卡，包括信用卡(credit card)和银行卡(或称借记卡 debit card)
信用卡包括很多种 Visa card， Master card，American Express，等等。其特性就是可以预支/透支消费。也就是先向银行借钱消费，在规定期限内（通常为一个月）还钱给银行不用有额外的利息，过期不还还需要向银行支付高额利息。使用信用卡时不需要密码只需在收据上签名即可（中国好像还要输密码）
Debit Card/Convenience Card在使用时需要输入密码，消费是直接从你的帐号上走钱。不能透支消费。
这里你所有的消费基本上都会计算做你的信用，你的信用越好，信用卡可以给你的透支额度越大，当然也要看你要不要这么大的。所以如果有信用卡，暗示还钱是很重要的。因为这会直接影响到以后买车买房时的贷款额度。

you are right,
so we have more ability , responsibility or maybe much more risks, if we are a mumber of credit union
but still, which one is better for us students, bank or credit union..

and as what I learned the transfer fee I talked about before,
if my parents want to sent some money to me ,
I need to pay $10 for some reason in RBC
and $24 in BMO
and $35 in CIBC..

那你们觉得信用卡有用吗？如果我想网上购物是不是直接在银行卡上弄个服务就成了。没必要办什么VISA==之类的吧？？

of course credit card is very important and useful,
you also need to build up credit since you are here in Canada
this matters your rest of your life in Canada,
if you have a good credit you may have more ability in this country
but you need to work towards it..

as what sunny said previously,
you may have Visa card， Master card，Discover card (maybe America express goes after this card), America Express
(four of them are the major credit banks in north America)
so go for some of them, and make sure you pay your bill every single month,
build up your own good credit and have good life..

信用卡还是有必要的。特别是在北美很多交易都需要有信用卡至少信用卡汇市交易变得很简单。
比如说租车，如果有信用卡就不用交现金押金了。
还有各种网上的交易，这里说的并不单纯是ebay，比如说网上买机票，环球电讯长途电话账单，各种账单都可以直接从信用卡上支付。母亲节的时候也可以用信用卡从网上为老妈订花。等等。
北美是信用社会，信用卡也是一个直接的手段积攒你在这里的信用额。之后的贷款能拿多少很重要的一点衡量就是你的信用如何。
所以有张信用卡还是很方便的，只要别忘了还信用卡上的钱就好了。
